The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 9-month contract at the Physical Education and Sport Science Academic Group 

Project Title: The effect of post-activation potentiation on the thrust produced by competitive swimmers

Project Introduction: A main concern for swimming coaches is the design of the best warm-up before racing a swim event at a major competition. Swimmers do the warm-up in a pool more than 30 minutes before their race. After that, they must report at a room and wait their turn to race.

The waiting time at the room can cancel out the warm-up performed earlier. Therefore, the swimming fraternity is trying to find out ways of tackling this issue.

An option is eliciting the post-activation potentiation while waiting. The main aim of this research is to investigate the effect of post-activation potentiation on thrust produced by upper- and lower-limbs in competitive swimming.

Essential

A Bachelor’s degree in Sport Science
Experience conducting research in sports biomechanics
Training and experience in operating dedicated software for data collection and data handling in sports biomechanics
Solid knowledge of research methods in sport sciences and statistics
Good written and oral communications skills
Able to work independently

Preferred

Have taken intermediate- and/or upper-level modules in sports biomechanics as an undergraduate student

Maintain and manage databases
Draft reports
Assist with other research-related activities
